On behalf of the Test Valley Partnership the Council hosted a half day conference  on Monday 27 April designed to help those agencies responsible for supporting people who have lost their job work together more closely.

Nearly 70 delegates from 34 organisations

attended the event which illustrates perfectly the willingness to understand what is happening,  share best practice and to work more closely together.

The conference was introduced by  Ian Carr, Vice Chairman of TVP and Leader of theCouncil who also took the opportunity to launch "the mobile unit" which is a joint venture across the valley and a great example of the TVP in action.  It will be used by many of the agencies which belong to TVP to deliver services particularly in the rural area. These include Children’s Centres, Youth work, Community Education, Play work, School Sports Partnership, Hampshire Families, TVBC, HCC and TVCS.

The logos of all those groups supporting the project together with a name will be painted on the mobile unit and a local artist has been enlisted.

Some of the main themes to emerge from the conference are:-

  • the need for an outreach Jobcentre plus service for Romsey
  • promoting volunteering among the rapidly growing number of unemployed - a pilot project involving Andover Jobcentre Plus and TVCS is in train
  • promoting among businesses the free service Jobcentre Plus offers to advise employees under threat of redundancy in their workplace
